Our first water vole habitat survey was a great success. We gathered loads of observations as the suitability or otherwise of the canal for water vole. Unfortunately the engineering features such as gabions, metal piling and concrete edges meant that long stretches of canal scored pretty low, but there were little glimmers of better habitat.
Along the way we also collected other sightings, Banded and Beautiful Demoiselle, Mink droppings, otter spraints on the bridges and a half eaten otter meal, a woolly caterpillar of the Drinker moth, Reed Bunting , heron, fox and badger prints. A lovely day out, thank you to Joe, Andrew, Dave , Caroline and Phil.
This Saturday we will be surveying the River Perry from Rednal Bridge to Jubilee Bridge at Wykey. We will be meeting at the Clubhouse at 9am to load the boat on the trailer. Please make you own arrangements for the day, I will bring our 17ft Coleman and can take two with me. Please let me know how you wish to organise it. Please note the trip will take all day and you will need to bring a packed lunch, snacks, drinks, sun tan lotion [ my knees got toasted last time!] , floppy hat and suitable footwear as there will be a number of portages past obstacles in the river, thanks.
If someone could bring their car so we can drop off the trailer at the finish and shuttle back to the start I would be most grateful, thank you.
I have all the maps and forms and can give guidance in filling them in. > > Finally if you are coming could you please let me know via email@example.com so I get an idea of numbers, thank you.
Hope you can join me , kind regards, Pete.
