River Vyrnwy Trip – Sunday 17 April

For those of you who intend paddling we will meet at 9.00 in the Club on Sunday to load boats etc , leaving at 9.30 and aiming to be at Meifod Rugby Club for 10.00. We will need to leave a couple of cars at the B4398 / B4393 junction (near the canal aqueduct ) for the shuttle back. If you want to join us at Meifod let me know.

Sian and myself paddled this route last Sunday, it took us 4.5 hrs including two short breaks. The river level at Meifod was 1.22m. We will not be paddling the route if the level is above 1.3m on Sunday. It is currently 1.44m, and falling with no rain forecast until Friday.

There are a number of hazards:

·         The main one is fallen trees on most of the route, giving entrapment risk near to the banks

·         Some fast flowing (and shallow) sections of water

·         One weir to portaged

We will be wearing helmets.

Having said all that – it is a lovely trip with a variety of scenery and river conditions.

Can you let me know if you intend joining us by 9.30 on Saturday, either by email or at the Club. This is so we can coordinate travel arrangements.

If you have any questions, drop me an email.

Best wishes

Bill

Please note: This is a ‘mutual friends’ trip. Shropshire Paddlesport are not providing coaches, safety cover or recommending the trip. Likewise myself and Sian are simply coordinating travel arrangements and sharing our experience of last weekend. If you paddle, you do so at your own risk.
