Shropshire Paddlesport Activities

Open Canoe

The club is big into open canoe. If you are just a beginner or fancy shooting some rapids on some of the local rivers then we are the club for you. We have quite a few open canoe club boats which are available to hire for members and we regularly run trips on the local canals, rivers and lakes. We also sail the open canoes so there is something for everyone!

KAYAKING

With a canal at the side of the club we are in a great position to help you get started in a kayak. We run trips up to Grade 3 which are a lot of fun. This means  if you want to get started in white water kayaking and want to explore the local rivers in Wales & Shropshire we can be the club for you. Come and have a chat with our white water kayak coaches on a Saturday morning to find out more.

Standup PaddleBoard (SUP)

Standup Paddle Board (SUP) is a fast growing sport and we have invested in 5 SUPs so that beginners can join the club and can learn how to paddle a SUP without the out lay of buying a board. Two of the boards are brand new in 2022 and we can cater for a range of size of paddler. We paddle throughout the year and so if you want to get ready for summer holidays we can help you.

Marathon

We have a group of paddlers in the club who are dedicated to marathon paddling. We also have club boats and so if you are interested you can come along on a Saturday morning and give it a go.

Sea Kayaking

We have a growing group of paddlers interested in Sea Kayaking and now the club has 4 brand new sea kayaks suitable for beginners and intermediates. Over the next 12 months we will be running training on Bala, rescue training on Ellesmere and beginner and intermediate trips on Anglesey, Llyn Peninsula & Cardigan Bay.

RAFTING

We have been loaned two R6 Bull Rafts from British Rafting with the aim to increase participation in the raft race series in the UK. For raft racing we train both on the Montgomery Canal to hone technique and gain strength and speed and also on the nearby River Dee where the raft racers practice moves like ferry glides, high crosses, breakouts and spin manoeuvres that they will need to use in competition.

CANOE SlAlom

At Shropshire Paddlesport we have a heritage of canoe slalom and have a number of club slalom boats for those looking to get started.

On Saturday mornings, we can setup poles so that you can get an idea of what it’s like in an a slalom boat and get coaching from our coaching team.  If you are interested, come down on a Saturday morning and get involved.
